Hiking the Narrows at Zions National Park

Brent, Christopher, and Spencer hiked the Narrows at Zions National Park--a 16-mile hike through the heart of some of the most spectacular and rugged scenery anywhere--in 11 hours. The grueling hike took its toll on the team, in no small part due to a bout of illness that was passing through the family. Everyone was glad to have survived the trek and to be alive!

Indian Trail

For Pioneer Day (observed on Monday, July 25, rather than on Sunday the 24th), Brent led four of the children--David, Caroline, Christopher, and Spencer--on a 4.3 hike above Ogden Canyon. Spectacular views of the canyon and across the Great Salt Lake to Nevada.

Danielle and David's Wedding

While out West attending President's Advancement Council meetings at BYU-I, Brent was privileged to witness the Draper Temple sealing of two dear friends, Danielle Walton and David Doty. Beautiful day!

"I'll Take The High Road"--Atop Utah's Skyline Drive

After a snowball fight (in July, no less!) and admiring alpine wildflowers at 9,000 feet, the kids pause just long enough for a photo op.

Man Trip to San Rafael Swell

Brent took the three oldest boys (Nathan is still too small) to some of the most remote places in Southern Utah on a men-only high adventure. They took the Mount Nebo Loop and then the Skyline Drive to Utah's red rock country. In the San Rafael Swell area they visited the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, explored ancient Indian petroglyphs, stepped in fossilized dinosaur tracks, and chased lizards while examining this massive bend in the earth's crust. They also scrambled about at Goblin Valley State Park. In Capitol Reef National Park they found a 250-million-year-old fossilized oyster bed. Before heading home, they ascended the treacherous Burr Trail and stopped at some Anasazi ruins.

Goff Family Cruise

Lorinda (sans Brent) enjoyed a cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with her parents, siblings, and their spouses. (Brent couldn't get away from work, and, in any event, the last time he vacationed with in-laws was, well, let's just say, "interesting . . . .") Lorinda had a wonderful time, despite being in an expectant state.

The Belnaps at Lagoon

Every summer we spend hours of fun as a family at Lagoon, a local amusement park in Farmington, Utah. Ah, the good ol' days . . . .

Ensign Peak

On July 26, 1997, Lorinda, Brent, and Christopher hiked Ensign Peak, located immediately north of downtown Salt Lake City, to commemorate the raising of the "standard to the nations" by Brigham Young on the same day 150 years ago. This photo has become one of the family's all-time favorites.
